PETER VOLIO
It is with great love and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Volio, a proud son of Grays Ferry, Philadelphia, who dedicated his life to family, neighborhood, and community. Peter left this world on August 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, leaving behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, service, and hard work.
Born on July 23, 1942, in the Italian Market area and raised in Grays Ferry, Peter was truly a neighborhood man through and through. For over 50 years he owned and operated Pete's Auto Body at 29th & Tasker, a local landmark where he not only fixed cars, but also lent a hand, gave advice, and looked out for everyone who walked through the door.
In his younger years, Peter was a Golden Gloves Championship Boxer, who was known for his fighting spirit - a quality he carried with him in life and shared generously with others.
Outside the ring and the shop, he loved crabbing, spending time at the shore, talking about politics, strutting with the Mummers, and giving his time to civic causes, For decades Peter was involved in community affairs.He was always proud of supporting his neighborhood through town watch activities, working the election pools, and contributing to various youth sports programs and church events.
Peter is loved and will be sorely missed by his beloved wife and childhood sweetheart, Carol (Schwarz) Volio. Together they built a family rooted in love, raising their children; Peter Volio, Jr., Carol Volio, Virginia Volio, and caring forever in their hearts the memory of their son, Robert Volio.
Peter was a devoted family man who treasured time spent with his grandchildren; Kathryn (Sean) Harkins, Brooke (Chester) Kozikowski, William Lyons, and Brittney (Jason) Gommer, and great grandchildren; Chester, Eloise, Addison, Makenna, Margaux, and Jason.
Peter is survived by his siblings; Carmen (Phyllis) Volio, Robert Volio, and Rochelle Pascale; in laws, Barbara (Thomas) Staunton and Linda (Francis) McGurk; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Peter is predeceased in death by his parents, Carmen and Theresa (Bocchino) Volio; grandson, Bernard McSorely; siblings, Mary Smack, Michael Volio, Theresa Sciortino,Josephine Raimondo, Joseph Volio, and brother-in-law, Edwin Schwarz.
Peter's legacy is one of loyalty, generosity, humor,and an unwavering pride in his community and family. He will be remembered for not only the life he lived but for the countless ways he touched the lives of others.
Relatives and friends are invited to honor Peter at his funeral service, where his life and memory will be celebrated in the true Grays Ferry spirit that he embodied everyday. There will be a Viewing for Peter, Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 9:30 to 10:30 am. at St. Gabriel Church 29th & Dickinson Sts. Funeral Mass 10:30 am. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
