Mary B. Walter's Obituary
WALTER
Mary B. (nee Kerr) Born April 13, 1934. A true angel on earth, Mary took flight and entered heaven on Dec. 26, 2014 after a long fight with illness. Married to her loving husband for 54 years, Bill (deceased) , she mothered Bill Jr. (Kathy), Bill (Jackie) Tapper, Mary Beth (Bill) Tompkins, Janet (Steve) Foy, Anne (Pat) Rosso, Jack (Melissa) Walter and Katie (Brian) McBride and the awesome Nanny to 20 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She loved her"Thelma" Nancy and the many steady friends from her time on earth.
Those who knew Mary, an 80 year resident of Grays Ferry, knew she loved her community and sharing the work of God with others. She had a servant heart and kindness and strength that will always be remembered by those whose lives she touched. No one was ever a stranger and it didn't take long for them to become family. Mary's wit and sense of humor was amazing. Laughter was a must and she was gifted with breaking the strongest moments of tension with little words that would immediately have you laughing out loud. This was seen up to the final hours in the hospital. She was a member of St. Gabriel's Sodality, worked diligently with Our House Ministries and the Calix Society. She continued her work with the Immaculate Heart of Mary Sisters and was proudly in the process of becoming a Franciscan.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Mon. 12/29 in Mary's life long Church of St. Gabriel 29th & Dickinson Sts. from 4:30 to 7:30 pm. A mass celebrating Mary's life will follow at 7:45 pm. Tuesday morning 12/30 a funeral procession will leave from St. Gabriel's Church at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations in Mary's memory be made to Our House Ministries 1439 S. 29th St, Philadelphia, PA 19146
